Hoje, também é cultivado em outras regiões da China e exportado amplamente para o Marrocos, onde é usado no famoso chá verde com hortelã (Maghrebi Mint Tea).
Tipo de Planta
Camellia sinensis var. sinensis, a mesma espécie tradicional do chá verde chinês.
O nome “Gunpowder” (pólvora) vem do aspeto das folhas — enroladas à mão em pequenas esferas escuras que, ao serem infundidas, “explodem” suavemente abrindo-se na água quente.

Chá verde, levemente tostado.
O processo é minucioso:
- As folhas jovens são vaporizadas ou salteadas brevemente para interromper a oxidação.
- São secas e enroladas à mão ou por máquina, num formato esférico que ajuda a preservar o sabor e aroma por mais tempo.
- São depois tostadas ligeiramente, conferindo um toque fumado e intenso.
Esse formato em bolinhas torna o Gunpowder um dos chás mais duradouros e resistentes à humidade.

Modo de Preparação e Cuidados
- Usar água a 75–85 °C (não ferver).

- Evitar deixar em infusão por demasiado tempo (torna-se amargo).
